Missoni wants another low-cost line

on Tuesday, November 1, 2011

Missoni would like to follow its successful Target collaboration with another lower-cost line, this time on an international scale.
Back in September the Italian fashion house, famed for its signature patterned knitwear, launched a 400-piece line for US department store chain Target.
While a top-of-the-range Missoni gown typically costs over $1,000, many of the Target items were priced under $50, and thrifty fashion fans were eager to snap them up. The collaboration line was so popular that it sold out almost immediately from retailers across America, with the online store going into meltdown.
However there is still hope for those who missed out on the Target collaboration, as 28-year-old Margherita Missoni has revealed her ideas regarding possible collaborator candidates for the future.
Speaking alongside her mother Angela and grandmother Rosita in an interview published October 30 in The Los Angeles Times, Margherita mused that a slightly higher-scale price range than Target would be appealing, and cited department store Macy’s as a contender for another American collaboration. In terms of European partnerships, the brand is keeping its options open, although it’s thought a decision should be made quickly.
"We can’t waste too much time," Margherita is quoted as saying.
"We have a lot of options because everyone is interested, but it has to be something that touches different categories…. The fact that you can put a zigzag on anything was part of the success at Target. People who wouldn’t wear a top would have a glass or a blanket.
"Maybe it’s a partnership with Macy’s in the US and someone else in Europe."
If Missoni does collaborate with Macy's, the label will be following in the footsteps of designers including Karl Lagerfeld, Matthew Williamson and Giambattista Valli. Just last week fashion fans rushed to catch a glimpse of the Giambattista Valli for Macy's Impulse range during its launch in Manhattan, New York.
Meanwhile, Jason Wu is the next designer to partner with Target. His collection will be available in stores and online as of February 5, 2012.

Kate Hudson's Halloween Party Brings Out Gwen, Nicole, Jessica, and More Costumed Stars

on

It was a star-studded evening at Kate Hudson's Halloween bash at her home in Pacific Palisades Saturday night. Kate made the trip back to LA from London last week, just in time to gear up for the annual costume party. Her guests, including Jessica Alba, Nicole Richie, Gwen Stefani, and Emma Roberts, went all out with their looks, though we haven't gotten a glimpse of what the host wore.

Jessica was in a witch getup while Nicole went as a hilarious version of Jennifer Lopez in her hot pink tracksuit. Gwen donned a gown and over-the-top makeup as Cinderella and her No Doubt bandmate Adrian Young went '80s for the soiree. Emma was a Playboy bunny and David Arquette made his second costumed appearance of the weekend in an Elvis suit. Rashida Jones sucked on a lollipop in her Blow Pop outfit while Ali Larter and her husband Hayes MacArthur were bumble bees. Nicky Hilton, who wore a cat suit for Friday night's festivities, changed into Little Red Riding Hood for yesterday's event. There were plenty of other celebrities in Halloween costumes this weekend, so check them out as we celebrate Halloween today.

China sends outspoken artist $2.4 million tax bill

on

BEIJING (AP) — Outspoken artist Ai Weiwei said Tuesday that Chinese authorities are demanding he pay $2.4 million in back taxes and fines in a new show of government pressure on the dissident detained for nearly three months earlier this year.
The Beijing Local Taxation Bureau gave the artist notice Tuesday that he owed more than 15 million yuan ($2.36 million), after serving a similar notice in June for a smaller amount, Ai said in a phone interview.
The new notice gave him around 10 days to make the payment, without saying what might happen if he failed, he said.
Ai said he would not pay until police returned account books confiscated from his Beijing Fake Cultural Development Ltd. design company and allowed him to meet with his former office manager and accountant.
"We can pay this money, but we need to know why we have to," he said. "We cannot just unwittingly hand over a sum of money. This would be irresponsible toward the country."
Authorities have not commented on the issue, and calls to the local tax bureau rang unanswered while Beijing's Public Security Bureau did not respond to a faxed list of questions.
Ai was detained secretly without charges for 81 days this year, sparking an international outcry among artists, politicians, activists and Western leaders who called it a sign of China's deteriorating human rights situation. Police also raided his studio and confiscated account books.
His family and supporters have said he is being punished for speaking out against the country's Communist leadership and social problems. Activists have called the government's tax evasion claims a false pretense for Ai's detention.
"Accounts for tax purposes should be investigated by the tax bureau, not the police," Ai said Tuesday. "Police should not be taking me away to a place that no one knows for 81 days to investigate taxes."
After his release in June, the tax bureau served a notice seeking about 12 million yuan ($1.85 million) from him. But his design firm challenged the bill and were told by Chinese authorities that the company had not paid corporate taxes for a decade.
Ai, who has shown his art in London, New York and Berlin and earned huge sums from sales, said he was most concerned that authorities were misusing the law in going after him.
"If you want to hurt one person, to hurt me, that's all right," he said. But "when you hurt the law, it hurts the country and everybody in it."

Kim Kardashian To File For Divorce From Kris Humphries

on

After 72 days of marriage, TMZ is reporting Kim Kardashian is expected to file for divorce from Kris Humphries this morning. Sources indicate even though the marriage was so short-lived, she will not seek an annulment and cited the reason for the filing as "irreconcilable differences." The exact date of separation is reportedly listed as today, October 31st.

Kim has hired famed divorce attorney, Laura Wasser (who has a client list that consists of Britney Spears, Maria Shriver, and Angelina Jolie), to
represent her in the formal proceedings. Before the wedding, both Kim and Kris signed a prenuptial agreement, so their divorce shouldn't take that long to be finalized.

We've all long suspected this marriage wouldn't last because in recent weeks, Kim and Kris have sent out signals indicating their legal binding wasn't in the greatest condition. Just last week, Kim told People Magazine that newlywed life "wasn't ideal" because she and Kris had no privacy (which is something she curiously never seemed to need before). Before that came the news that Kris wasn't even Kim's first choice for a husband, and that before she and Kris started dating she actually approached basketball player for the New York Knicks, Danilo Gallinari, and asked if he would be interested in being in a relationship with her (he (probably wisely) declined). And before that we learned Kim's agent dropped Kris as a client, AND BEFORE THAT he was spotted out and about without his wedding ring on AND BEFORE THAT that Kim was seen visiting a divorce attorney's office in New York.
